AISQUITH’S SHARP SHOOTERS... a War of 1812 rifle company, has been re-enacted by Explorer Post 438 for over 20 years.
Part of the Boy Scouts of America’s Learning for Life Explorer Division, the unit is sponsored by St. Rita Roman Catholic Church, Dundalk, Md, and is open to both young men and women, 14 years of age & older.
Over the years, the Explorer Post has amassed a storehouse (literally) of equipment, resources, knowledge and experience.
When re-enacting, our camp, equipment and our personnel’s clothing are all period correct.
Our primary demonstrators, the rifle corps (Green & Red Platoons) , demonstrate and re-enact the 1812 rifle manual of arms, drill & tactics.
Our unit’s personnel can also demonstrate the following:
The Green Platoon specializes in musket drill and can portray sailors of HMB Fantome & act as a British raiding party.
The Red Platoon’s specialty is Malinak’s Volunteer Junior Militia - a program where youth from the audience are recruited into a militia company, learn to drill and march and receive a certificate of enlistment.
The Distaff Group interprets domestic crafts and specializes in 1812 children’s games including Larks, hoop rolling, sack races, jump rope and others.
The Cook Crew interprets 1812 cooking - What was..and wasn’t eaten in 1812 and specializes in feeding our group in the field. The cook crew also has the capability of running a modern food stand.
Training Crew (Officers) coordinates all of the above and specializes in displays (maps, pictures, historic accounts) concerning the various historic sites where we re-enact
A note to site managers and program directors about compensation.
Our uniforms, weapons, equipment all cost money and are all subject to wear. Ammunition alone currently (12/09) costs 20 to 30 cents a round. Any assistance, be it called a stipend, an allowance, or an expense supplement, is appreciated.
